FAQ about A-Sexual Pride
What does it mean to be asexual?
Asexuality means that one does not experience sexual attraction to others. It is a sexual orientation and a part of the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Asexual people can still have romantic relationships and feel love, but not necessarily sexual desire or attraction.
What do the colors in the Asexual flag mean?
The Asexual Pride flag was designed in 2010 as the result of an open vote organized by the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN).
The goal was to create a recognizable symbol for asexual people and their community – a flag that could stand alongside other LGBTQ+ flags while also reflecting the diversity within the asexual spectrum.
The flag consists of four horizontal stripes:
-
Black: Symbolizes asexuality, meaning people who do not experience sexual attraction.
-
Gray: Represents gray-asexuality and demisexuality – identities where sexual attraction arises only in specific or rare circumstances.
-
White: Stands for allies (supporters) and the wide range of sexual and romantic identities that exist.
-
Purple: Symbolizes community, togetherness, and solidarity among asexual people and their supporters.
The design was chosen through a community vote in which over 30 different proposals were submitted. The current flag quickly gained popularity and has since served as the primary symbol of visibility, pride, and belonging within the asexual community worldwide.
How does one know if they are asexual?
Many asexual people discover their identity by noticing that they do not experience sexual attraction like others.
It's a personal journey, and it's perfectly normal to have doubts or take time to figure it out.
There is not one correct way to be asexual.
Is asexuality the same as celibacy or lack of sexual desire?
No. Asexuality is about the absence of sexual attraction—not necessarily the absence of sex or desire. Some asexual people choose to have sex, others do not. It is a sexual orientation, not a lifestyle choice or abstinence.
How can one support Asexual individuals and Asexual Pride?
You can show support by listening, accepting, and respecting the experiences and identity of asexual people.
Use inclusive language, share information, and perhaps wear the colors of the asexual flag to create visibility and support for the community.
A-SEXUAL & ASEXUAL PRIDE FLAG - IDENTITY AND PRIDE
Asexuality, often abbreviated as “ace,” is a sexual orientation in which a person experiences little or no sexual attraction to others. This doesn’t mean a lack of emotion, love, or romance—on the contrary, the asexual spectrum includes a wide range of identities and experiences. Some identify as romantic asexual, demisexual, gray-asexual, or aromantic, reflecting the rich and diverse nature of the ace community.
The asexual pride flag was introduced in 2010 and is now a widely recognized symbol for people on the asexual spectrum. It consists of four horizontal stripes, each with its own meaning:
- Black (top): Represents asexuality itself.
- Grey: Symbolizes gray-asexuality and demisexuality—people who experience sexual attraction only under specific or rare circumstances.
- White: Stands for allies and sexuality in a broader sense.
- Purple (bottom): Represents community and solidarity within the LGBTQIA+ movement.
Asexual individuals are often overlooked or misunderstood—both in the broader society and within the LGBTQ+ community. That’s why visible symbols like pride flags, pins, bracelets, patches, and ace-colored merch are so important. They signal identity, belonging, and pride—and help aces find community and recognition.
On this page, you'll find a carefully curated selection of asexual pride merchandise that celebrates authenticity, representation, and diversity. Whether you identify as ace yourself or want to show support as an ally, there's plenty of opportunity to wear your pride with color and respect.
We believe all identities deserve visibility, recognition, and space—including those that are quieter or more easily overlooked. That’s why our ace-themed collection is designed with equal parts care and inclusion.
